Ramstein golfer Jason Perry, a one-handicapper who’s the reigning USAFE champion, shot a six-over 294 last week at Camp Pendleton, Calif., to finish third overall in the 2009 Armed Forces golf championships.
According to Armed Forces Sports director Ken Polk, Perry, who scored 74-71-76-73 over the 6,711-yard, par-72 Marine Memorial Course, finished two shots behind fellow Airmen John Little of MacDill AFB, Fla., and Tyler Goulding of Kirtland AFB, N.M. Each of those golfers posted two-under 70s for their final rounds last Wednesday and tied at four-over 292.
Another Air Force golfer, Arnell Garza of Vandenberg AFB, Calif., placed fourth at 12-over 300 in the event, which the Air Force team dominated. Combining their best five-of-six scores each round, the Airmen totaled 1,492 strokes – 52 over par for the tournament – to win by 73 strokes over the runner-up Marine Corps team. The Army was third at 1,583, four strokes ahead of the Navy.
Air Force women also dominated their event. Led by the 27-over 319 posted by champion Linda Jeffery of Offutt AFB, Neb., the three-woman USAF team outdistanced the runner-up Navy by 66 strokes.
Perry’s achievement at Camp Pete landed him on the U.S. team which is presently competing against military golfers from around the world in the 2009 CISM (International Military Sports Council, or Conseil International du Sport Militaire, for those of you practicing your French) which ends Saturday in Windhoek, Namibia.
Wonder if the ball, like water draining in the bathtub, spins the other way when it swirls into the cup in the Southern Hemisphere? We’ll try to ask Perry when he gets back.

Request for Team Standings Divisional and Regional
I'm one of the countless followers of HS Europe DoDDS basketball. Can I possibly request stars and stripes to:
1. post team standings both divisional and regional
every sunday under sports section? I'm pretty sure European
HS basketball followers would love to see this.
2. is it possible to have more photos on ASIL teams? I noticed DoDDS schools in Germany are on the sports section more often. A balanced coverage will help. Thanks.
