The Danube by ship and bike
Posted June 27th, 2007 by Karen BradburyA friend and colleague kindly provided me with an interesting flier from DB Reisebüro, with an offer that seems tailor-made to indecisive types.
Cycle tour or river cruise? The “Donau-Rad & Schiffstour” allows you to experience both. This package offer sees you biking along the Danube Cycle Route during the daytime hours, while nights and evenings are spent on board a moving ship. The 5-night journey takes you between Passau and Vienna and includes half-pension and accommodation aboard ship, packed lunches, rental bicycle, and round trip transportation between any train station in Germany. As a bonus, you receive a BahnCard providing you with a 25% discount on train travel in Germany valid for a whole year. Prices start at 615 euros per person when sharing a double room. The offer is available now through September. A similar arrangement is available for Holland, but departure dates are fixed at September 29 and October 6.
Sound good? Visit the "Reiseland" at your nearest good-sized train station in Germany.

A note about the bahn card
Just a note on the bahncard. Yes it's a good thing, and very useful if you travel a lot by train. But once you get the card, they want you to keep it. You have to get a form from their website, and send it in to cancel your card. Otherwise you will be charged for another year.
