Learn a language- Rosetta Stone through your AKO account

Just a little reminder to those of you eligible for access to the Army Knowledge Online Web site. The Rosetta Stone Language courses are a great resource to tap into prior to an extended trip.

As for European languages, training modules in Danish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish are available. The first few lessons tend to focus on vocabulary that could prove invaluable to travelers, so why not devote a couple of hours to getting a feel for the language that will soon be buzzing in your ears?

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A SPANISH AND ARABIC COURSES.

Spanish

I am the spouse of an Active Duty Army soldier and I have an ako account myself. I never use it, so I may need to reactivate it, but he mentioned this was available to us free of charge. I have been wanting to learn Spanish most of my life and was actually thinking about purchasing this course when they advertised it over the television. I noticed how expensive the courses were and was elated to know the military offered this to it's service men/women and their families. How wonderful! Could you, perhaps, enlighten me on how I can begin this and the process I need to go through to get going? I am a veteran as well, does that help in utilizing this course or will being a current dependant be enough?

getting started with Rosetta Stone through your AKO Web site

It's not all that easy to find the courses on-line, but perhaps this will help:

Registered users can access the AKO home page at https://www.us.army.mil and log in

From the options on the drop-down menu, choose "Self Service"

Choose "My Training"

Scroll down to the option titled "Army e-Learning Online" and go to the Army e-Learning portal

New users should register for an account, those who have an account already can log in

Sign on

Beneath the heading titled information, choose "Rosetta Stone Foreign Language Courses"

and that should get you started.

I hope that works for you.

Best wishes,

Karen

can't access Rosetta Stone as a dependent spouse

I opened an AKO account based on the above info hoping to learn German.

Getting the AKO account was no problem, however, when trying to access e-learning online I was blocked.

Dependents are not given access to e-learning, only active duty, retired, DoD employees, etc. But not spouses and family members.

Which is a bum deal for us.
