Late season waiver wire
Posted December 10th, 2007 by leoshaneIf you've made it to your league's postseason and survived the first-round of games, you've probably got too good a team to be worrying about the waiver wire.
Then again, stars like Reggie Bush can go down at any point in the season, so here are a few names to look at if you need some last-minute fill-ins:
Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Indianapolis
Owned in 17.4 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues
The former Ohio State star has seen increased playing time as the injuries on the Colts offense have piled up, and he finally has something to show for it. Twice in the last three weeks he has topped 100 receiving yards, and he scored twice in Sunday's romp over the Ravens.
Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo
Owned in 16.4 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues
Sure, his 115 rushing yards this week come with an asterisk because Miami is terrible, but the pervious week he hung up 82 against a tough Washington defense. And he has another 10 catches for 122 yards over the last three games. For Marshawn Lynch owners, he's a must-have backup.
Luke McCown, QB, Tampa Bay
Owned in 3.2 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues
You'd have to be pretty desparate to start a wavier wire QB at this point in the season, but maybe you rode Jeff Garcia or Jason Campbell to the second round of your playoffs. If so, McCown is probably the best option left. The Bucs play Atlanta and San Francisco over the next two weeks, so he could repeat his two-tocuhdown performance from two weeks ago against those miserable defenses.
Jabar Gaffney, WR, New England
Owned in 1.3 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues
He's undeinably the most valuable No. 4 receiver in the league right now. As teams have clamped down on WR Randy Moss, Gaffney has become a red zone threat. Last week's 7 catch, 122 yard performance was impressive, and he'll have an even better shot at those kind of numbers if the Patriots decide to rest some starters down the stretch.
