Waiver wire, week 6

More injuries mean bad news for some fantasy owners and opportunities for others:

Earnest Graham, RB, Tampa Bay

Owned in 53.2 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues

Usually I don't like to include players here that are owned on many teams, but after putting Michael Pittman on this list last week I had to put Graham here this week. Pittman will miss at least six weeks with an ankle injury, so if you grabbed him last week pray that Graham is still around.

David Carr, QB, Carolina

Owned in 7.9 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues

Thoughts on the bye

As you deal with the second week of roster gaps thanks to the NFL's bye weeks, here's some general advice to keep in mind:

  • Don't worry so much about kickers

And don't carry two kickers for five weeks just because Rams K Jeff Wilkins is on a bye in week 9. I'm not a fan of dropping a decent kicker during his bye just to protect a some third-string bench-warming wideout, but there is always someone on the waiver wire who can be plugged in that hole just a day or two before.

Waiver wire, Week 5

Sunday was brutal for RBs -- It may already be too late, but here are the names to look for on your league's waiver wire:

Michael Pittman, RB, Tampa Bay

Owned in 14.9 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues

The Bucs' starting job is his to lose now that Cadillac Williams is out for the season. If he's already gone in your league, Ernest Graham is worth a look -- he may become the team's third-down and goal-line back, and with Tampa's recent succcess that could be valauble in TD-heavy leagues.

Selvin Young, RB, Denver

Owned in 7.9 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues

Waiver wire, Week 4

Next week's action features the first bye weeks of the year (Tennessee, New Orleans, Washington, and Jacksonville), so be sure to scour the waiver wire early to fill in those gaps. Here are some players to consider:

James Jones, WR, Green Bay

Owned in 13.8 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues

The rookie wideout has improved each week so far, and with Brett Favre's recent hot hand he could become a valuable player to have on the bench. And if Donald Driver keeps getting banged around like he has in the early season, Jones could find himself seeing even more passes coming his way.

Reader questions, week 3

I’m in a keeper league and my running back situation is hurting. There just wasn’t many quality backs left when the draft came along and the best choice from my initial backs was Reuben Droughns (unfortunately he was turned into a “fullback”). Who do I start in week 3? We can start a max of 2 RBs, but would it be better to start 3 of my receivers considering my weak RB situation?

Just how good was Carson?

The big story of Sunday was the Browns upset win over the Bengals, but from a fantasy standpoint Cincinnati QB Carson Palmer grabbed the headlines.

His 401 yards passing, 6 TDs, 2 interceptions and 10 rushing yards translated into 41.2 fantasy points based on traditional scoring leagues (50 passing/10 rushing/10 receiving per point, 6 points per TD, -2 points for turnovers). That's the top scorer so far this year, and the kind or territory usually reserved for LaDanian Tomlinson during his four-TD binges.

So how good was Palmer on Sunday? Here are some comparisons:

Buy low, sell high

Most fantasy players don’t jump the gun and start dismantling their roster after one week, especially high draft picks who were slow out of the blocks, but if there’s someone in your league who annually has the itch to look at the results of the first game and make a move, then here’s some things to consider…

Buy low
