Class AA football playoffs breakdown

To paraphrase the old Toyota commercial motto: You asked for it; you got it! :)

Class A championship
Robert D. Edgren at Taegu American, Kelly Field, Camp Walker, South Korea, 2 p.m. Nov. 3 -- Host Warriors' sturdy defense led by Dan Garcia (28 points allowed thus far) and its two-pronged offensive threat (Antonio Harris, Angel Hickman) against a dynamic Eagles offense revolving around dangerous senior backs Zach Latimore and Jacque Moton and workmanlike fullbacks Andrew Blankenship and Josh McDonald. The home team has won the first two meetings in this series. This should be as close as the first one, when Osan American edged Edgren 16-14. ... Robert D. Edgren 17, Taegu American 15.

Class AA semifinals
Yokota at Guam High, Blue Jacket Field, Naval Station "Big Navy," 7 p.m. Nov. 3 -- Pick your poison. Yokota can come at you with any one of four major weapons, Anthony McNeill, Tony Presnell and Derick Seward on the ground, DeEric Harvin and Riki Byrnes in the air. Can Guam High's "Terror Dome" defense -- not to mention the HEAT -- stifle the Yokota Ground Machine? ... Yokota 22, Guam High 18.
Seoul American at Kadena, McDonald Stadium (Risner Field), Kadena Air Base, 7 p.m. Nov. 3 -- Falcons are unbeaten, but had to work for every victory; note Seoul American's 3-0 victory over Taegu three weeks ago. Daniel Burns, the Brothers Johnson and Joe McLean are tough, but the Panthers are at home and firing on all cylinders, as Ernest Carr, Roosevelt Payne and Brandon Harris ran all over Kubasaki to the tune of 86-6 in two games. ... Kadena 25, Seoul American 17.

Your thoughts? Sound off! And remember, you've entered THE "No-Hate Zone."

Seoul American and Kadena

Seoul American is a tough team. Kadena wants revenge from what happened last year. This will be a dogfight

Kadena 28
Seoul American 23

Let me remind....

Let me remind everyone who the defending champs are and why we won it. we won because of defense and that's what wins championships; defense..and i truly believe Seoul American has the best coaching staff and the best defense in the pacific. Korea never gets any credit, but we always prove people wrong. Remember two years ago when far east football first came out? Yokota was supposed to be the power house..they had a 56 game winning streak and a monster offense. everyone picked them to beat us. what happend...we shut down McNeil, Dixon, Doug Bloom, anyone you name we shut them down.held them to 10 points and we pulled off the upset. Then last year once again everyone picked Kadena to win. Kadena was supposed to have this unstoppable offense with Sean Shattuck, what happened.. yeah, he did have that long 93 yard td run on the second play of the game, but after that we shut him down, and not only him but their whole offense and we held them to 6 points......Now to this year....Kadena is probally a good team, i have no doubt in my mind about that, but they played a banged up kubasaki, a team that got blown out all 3 games they played this year..how do you know that kubasaki isn't just a bad team? but i'll guess we'll see....i'm ready.. our whole team is ready for this...so let it be known that..whoever kadena is gonna bring at us is going to have a nightmare...we're fast and we hit....and don't sleep on the offense either..even though we dont put up big numbers like we used to, we're still good and we can score at any time....People can say that we had to work for every victory, but we got just that the victory. we killed osan all 3 times we played them and the first time we played taegu it was a nasty, sloppy, muddy game with nothing but turnovers..had 2 tds called back so we shoulda won that game by more..and the victory when it was 3-0..that was a defensive game..Daegu is a legit team and they will beat edgren..they are good..believe me...harris is a monster on defense...never seen anymore be in more tackles since when daniel cain played for SAHS....i mean yokota beat edgren 13-12..and I don't see any negative comments about that....everyone has their opinion and we'll use all the naysayers as motivation....cuz BELIEVE IT...we comming to oki and we commin hard...we wont go down without a fight.....should be a good game though..i look foward to it....

Panther take both games

Yokota takes this over guam.Yokota has too many weapons on offense...McNeill, Presnell, Byrnes, Seward, Harvin. Defense also includes LB's Rainey Dailey and Josh Lenerd. Their dedicated to win after losing the past 2 years in the playoffs 13-10 to seoul and 37-30 kadena. Look for them to come hard 40-6

Kadena panthers are goin to win against seoul. I think kadena has to prove that their a legit team. People questioning them since they played a kubasaki team fulled with injuries. I think they make a statement. Kadena 30 Seoul 14

....

dude... you got to admit seoul had to put a fight with Taegu. I'm sorry but I think it's kind of pathetic to say a muddy game is the reason seoul didn't "blow out" Taegu, when Taegu gave them a good game. All this .. "could of beat them by more" stuff is pretty useless to say man. If you could of you would of, but plain and simply could not. Seouls still a good team, but not as good as you might want seoul to sound. Well, good luck to Seoul with Kadena n show e'm that korea's got it comin. Taegu's definatley going have something for Edgren.

Defense Wins Championships

I'm picking Seoul American over Kadena. Defense wins championships and Seoul American is operating smoothly on defense right now. They have pitched three consective shutouts and have outscored their opponents 121 to 20. Seoul is averaging 24.2 points a game and their defense is only giving up an average of 4 points a game.

I'm not taking anything away from Kadena, because I don't really know much about them this year. They beat up on a hurt Kubaski team, so I can't tell if they're for real or not. It appears they have a running game, but that is what Seoul has shut down the last two years in the Far East playoffs. Seoul American's defensive secondary is top notch and I don't think opposing teams can throw against them.

Kadena will have the home crowd and we all know how the Kadena home crowd can be at times (well, most times), so it will be a good game and I'm sure quite entertaining.

My pick is Seoul over Kadena.

Yokota and Kadena

Im not going to say much about the first round of the playoffs because the championship will be Yokota and Kadena. The Blue and Gold return back to the glory days of going undefeated. McNeill and Presnell have two games left. McNeill needs less than 50 yards for 1,000 and Presnell needs his last to games to get 150 in each and he will have over 1,000. Two running back on one team with 1,000 yards. Thats unheard of. Im taking Yokota over Guam, Kadena over Seoul, and in the final Yokotaa over Kadena. Yokota ends the season undefeated and with 2 1,000 yard rushers.

Kadena and Seoul American

The second post does make some sense. Seoul American did have a good defense last year. They shut us down badly, but that year is over with. I dont know what Seoul is comming with because I havnt seen them since then. All I know is that Kadena is going come hard from what happened last year. We're going to prove to people that we didnt win because Kubasaki lost 3 of their starters.

You will need to score!

I concur, a defensively sounded team provides the making of an outstanding game; however, Kadena will strike first and win. There are no ties ( 0 - 0 ) in this situation. I feel Kadena will be strong defensively as well but their offense will decide the winner of this game. Kadena 15 / Seoul 3.

Yokota will win over Guam. The "eye" of the Panther is hungry for a championship...they lost out two years in a row. Look for the Panthers to run and throw all over Guam. As spoken earlier...CHOOSE YOUR POISON! Yokota 36 / Guam 12.

okinawa game

about seouls secondary, no way did that get worse. our secondary is way better then it was last year so i dont think passing is much of an option against them. seouls defense did not get any worse then it was. we have only 3 new players on it from last year. sure we lost cj and cain, but how often did they play last year? cain was out the whole season and cj was injured for half the games. the offense is a little shaky though after losing smalls and 4 of the 5 starting o-linemen. im not sure how good kadenas defense is but from the sounds of it, its pretty good. we have obviously proved that they can stop the running game for any team and osan couldnt even throw passes against us cause we intercepted almost every throw. im not saying seouls gonna win though, but i think its going to be a defensive game. whoever can get the offense going in this game is gonna be the winner, itll definitely be good. we'll see who goes to the championship next weekend though, good luck to both teams.

You make it sound like were

You make it sound like were a one dimensional team...were not only defense...yeah defense is the strong point of our team, but we rack up points everytime we step on the field. we only played one horrible game and only put up 3 points, but offense can take nights off..defense doesnt, but thats what good teams do. they overcome adversity...we've been tested so we know how to handle the pressure, but can Kadena?. they havent been tested yet..How will they react when the going gets tough..cuz it will, and as our O goes...were not full of injuries..were ready...the johnson brothers are good..ones stong and it will take 3,4,5 guys to take him down..the other is too quick on his feet. one move to his right or left hes moving the chains....my boy trin stansel, hes a good running back as well, a sleeper..people always tend to keep an eye on Joe Mclean or the brothers, and next thing you know Trin is moving the chains...and then you have Burns...hes just an athlete, not your typical stay in the pocket passer...he can beat you in the air or beat you on the ground....so people diss on our O cuz of that ONE game, but like i said....it should be a good game and i look foward to it.

Time will tell....

As we are know, time will tell all! Everyone is commenting on what they think as an individual...no one is taking anything away from the Seoul team. Everyone has accomplished great things this season; however someone has to lose. In my opinion; it will be Seoul. Please don't take it personal. You could be correct, Seoul could win...we are all making our prediction. Lighten up! :)

Wisdom

Excellent Point Second Time!
It's great to have high hopes for your team, but to be unrealistic or to talk a lot of hype is dumb. I try to teach my kids not to talk any smack or make any crazy predictions becasue if you fall flat on your face, you look like a fool. It's also not good sportsmanship. And, it serves as great fuel for the other team. We always put up the quotes that people publish as motivation, as most coaches do. We try to teach our kids to be classy and keep their mouths shut and not feed into the battles of words.

Record proves the point

Coach,

Yokota has been very fortunate to have you as a coach. You teams have benefited from your expertise for many years and this year especially. It is unfornutate that other PACAF football players did not have the opportunity to learn the game the way you have taught it. There is more to the game than what the next play will be called.

Good luck in the future!

Workman like fullbacks

You are right about Andrew Blankenship, he has been a great asset at full back and his 30 yard romp for a score against yokota backs it up. Josh McDonald is a sophmore who is actually a tailback with 4.4 speed and with huge talent, He will make a lot of noise when he move to the states in December with his brother kevin.

If the Eagles are to have any chance against Tagu, the need a balanced offense. The great linebacker at Tagu won't have much trouble if all he has to do is chase Lattimore around all day. Hopefully the Eagle have gone back to the offense and smashed mouth defense than has led them to success in the past.

On a side note: This is Kevin McDonald's last high shool football game. He played linebacker, center, defensive tackle, long snapper, reciever and quarterback this year, oh I forgot, he is also on special teams. What other player in league does all this in one game? We did enjoy watching Kevin hand the ball to his brother Josh for TD's. There's a story for you.

uh...

Jmac
i agree with your blog for the most part. but there are alot of players who play multiple positions during the season and in one game. playing in japan or for a dodds school over seas doesnt give some schools the benefit of having huge teams, there for alot of the players have to take up multiple roles sometimes never coming off the field. i dont mean to take anything away from kevin mcdonald or anyone else who plays multiple positions during a game, for the feat is commendable, but it isnt an unique story over here in dodds pacific.

Kadena vs. Yokota

Having played in last year's Far East championship wearing black and gold, I know that the few returning stars of Kadena feel quite a resentment toward their overtime loss in Seoul last year. I know that Sean Bowens, Stan Schrock, and the very few others returning to the always offensively powerful Kadena team are looking for pay back and playing at home in front of family and friends (and probably a few jealous Kubasaki spectators), will give them a boost they need to pull off a win. A high scoring game; Kadena wins 42-35 off the legs of Vince Coronado and Ernest Carr.

Guam is a tough team with a great defense but I don't believe they have what it takes to stop Anthony McNeill, Tony Presnell and Derick Seward a great offensive trio. Yokota will probably struggle a little with an unproven defense but will pull it off; Yokota 28, Guam 20

hmmm

your right about mcneil and presnell and seward being a GOOD offensive trio, but they can be stopped, it will come down to yokotas defense to win this game, they will have to play their best defensive game yet to advance to their FIRST far east final

no way possible

theres no way possible edgren can go to taegu and play a game well enough against the contagous corners and the weapons of mass destruction in the box..taegus line and middle linebacker are truely problems for an offense ask coach harden and coach alvorado. the corners are truely headhunters, hickman and spencer are go getters with them on the outside nothing gets around them. and angel has been doing it for four years now. until last week the offense hasnt shinned in a while..but we all saw what happened against osan the first 4 series they scored and the open play in the second half spencer scored on a reverse and after it was called back hickman scored on a fake reverse..the backs of taegu (B.A.M.A) are foreal. and they arent scare by the fantastic four coach walter (DR.DOOM) will put an end to there non-sense..taegu wins far east class AA and edgren rides the plane home losers.

Records prove the point

I have not had the pleasure to see the great players you talk about. I am sure they deserve recognition. If a defense had as many standouts as you talk about, your team should be undefeated. Most high schools teams in the Pacific run the ball, but will exploit the passing game if the defensive backfield is weak. Most of the QB's are not standout passers because they have not had time to hone their skill because of the nature of moving schools and systems. The Bears have a great defense, but look at their record. If you are relying on three or four guys to stop the Eagles, good luck and by the way I hope the have 4.3 or 4.4 speed to catch out Fab-4.

cant be holded

theres no way possible edgren can go to taegu and play a game well enough against the contagous corners and the weapons of mass destruction in the box..taegus line and middle linebacker are truely problems for an offense ask coach harden and coach alvorado. the corners are truely headhunters, hickman and spencer are go getters with them on the outside nothing gets around them. and angel has been doing it for four years now. until last week the offense hasnt shinned in a while..but we all saw what happened against osan the first 4 series they scored and the open play in the second half spencer scored on a reverse and after it was called back hickman scored on a fake reverse..the backs of taegu (B.A.M.A) are foreal. and they arent scare by the fantastic four coach walter (DR.DOOM) will put an end to there non-sense..taegu wins far east class AA and edgren rides the plane home losers.

Repeat

Not sure I understand the repeated blog...but I have no more comments until after the game, except that you are right in the fact the Eagles have to travel a long way and stay in some roach infested barracks. Hopefully there is heat and at least a cot. I can't understand why all the teams are treated this way when they travel. As a parent I have no problem paying for lodging. Last week the Eagles stayed in a old class room...with roaches. I know for a fact there is lodging available...I called and checked. Better care is needed all Pacific teams travel. Schedules are put out well in advance...reservation could be made...pick up the phone:)

yeah - your school

yeah - your school should've made reservations - or checked whats avaialble and requested those. you are right, there are alot of lodging opportunities from exercise barracks with bunk beds to the hotel type lodging, but it depends on what the school/athletes want to pay. Dont worry - it'll probably be too cold for the roaches to come out -,... rats and skeeters though, thats another story... those suckers are big. gotta be all the kimchee

should be a great game this saturday

Keep it on topic, please

Guys, guys, guys:

Please leave the roaches out of it and stick with football. We have an exciting game coming up Saturday; no need to tarnish it with that sort of babble. Good luck Warriors. Good luck Eagles. See y'all Saturday. :)

aw, cmon, lighten up dave,

aw, cmon, lighten up dave, it was a joke - it not like we are insulting each other or the players. everyones excited about this game on saturday - alot of hype - alot of great players. theres always room for excited banter on blogs. besides, lodging is a
good issue to bring up.

Game Results

If someone could post the Eagles vs Taegu game results after the game on Saturday on this blog, that would be great. The kids can't call home to easy and we won't know the score until they get home or the paper comes out.

Thanks!

Game Results...

Same request for the Seoul vs. Kadena game. I'd be great if someone can post the results of that game on this blog as soon as it's over.

History

Who knows the history on the Japan vs Korea match ups. How long as has it been going on?

Does anyone know if the any of the schools has ever had anyone to play in college with success and maybe even move to the next level?

Re: History

Japan vs. Korea matchups have gone on as far back as 1982, when the old Korea Youth Activities league sent an All-Star team to play Yokota.

In the current Far East playoffs, Yokota lost at Seoul American in the Class AA semifinal 13-10 on Nov. 5, 2005.

Osan American edged Robert D. Edgren that same day 16-14 in the Class A championship. 364 days later Edgren blanked Osan 23-0 to avenge that defeat.

Kevin Maxwell, Zama American Class of 1987, walked on at Georgia that spring and started for two seasons on scholarship. His senior year, he played alongside another DODDS product, Eric Zeier, Heidelberg Class of 1990. Imagine the notes they compared.

Wesly Mallard played for the Yongsan Raiders of the old Korea Youth League in 1994 and '95. He walked on at Oregon, helping the Ducks to a No. 2 ranking in 2001, then was picked in the sixth round of the 2002 draft by the New York Giants. He's played for the Giants, New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers since then.

My Picks for this Saturday's Football Games...

Class A Championship:
Daegu - 20
Edgren - 12

Class AA Semi-Finals:
Seoul - 17
Kadena - 14

Yokota - 22
Guam - 8

All games should be exciting.

wilco on the A game. But

wilco on the A game. But in case your kids wanted to know, Camp Walker isnt that big. The Youth Center is right next to the field and has some computers. The Community Center and Library are in the same building across the street and there are more computers over there (where alot of the kids hang out).

Thanks

Thanks for posting the score.
