Musings, mutterings and the occasional schmahts as KAIAC Division I soccer tournaments approach:
-- Yongsan International-Seoul may be fielding the best boys soccer team in school history, but -- for now -- the Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference Division I title still belongs to Seoul Foreign. Andrew Park (Pacific-high 22 goals plus 11 assists) and the Crusaders sealed coach Doug Farley's seventh straight regular-season title with a 2-0 win Wednesday at YIS-Seoul.
-- But you know the Guardians are going to come back loaded for bear at this weekend's KAIAC Division I tournament at Seoul American. Expect that Saturday championship match between the Guardians and Crusaders to be one for the ages.
-- On the girls' side, Karen Lee (28 goals, 7 assists) and Brittney Rader (18, 8) and the Crusaders reclaimed the KAIAC title from Seoul American. Seoul Foreign capped its 12-0-2 KAIAC campaign by blanking YIS-Seoul 8-0.
-- They swept the season series from Seoul American for the first time in school history and also tied Seoul Foreign earlier this season. But no matter what they do, Osan American's girls soccer team simply can't seem to solve Taejon Christian International; the Dragons shut out the Cougars 1-0 on Tuesday.
-- Tight one Tuesday in the rain at Sagamihara Housing Area's short field, where Christian Academy In Japan needed a last-second goal to edge the Trojans 4-3. Is the rest of the Far East catching up to Leo Kobayashi and the Knights?
-- Anybody see a pattern developing with American School In Japan's girls? The last three times they've gone into halftime tied 0-0, they score a long-distance goal to win 1-0. Happened last May 23 in the Far East Class AA Tournament title match on Ivie Myntti's goal from 30 yards out against Kubasaki. Roxanne Clement was next to do it, on Monday from 35 yards away against Zama American. The latest: Appana Lok from 30 yards out against Yokota. All of those wins on the road.
War championship weeks and weekends. 23 days to Kanto track, 25 days to Far East.

wow!
asij is doing very well! im surprised since they lost many senior girl last year, no?
those goals sound amazing
they are so far away!
go asij!
last year, they had 3 seniors (morgan bridgman and two goalies). i'm not sure why everyone is surprised at how well they're doing this year. however, this year's team has 8 seniors. next year, they'll definitely have to "rebuild".
their goals WERE amazing! if i'm not mistaken, appana lok was playing defense in that game.
tcis
yeah - i've argued since the first rankings that tcis lady dragons should be higher than osan and even mcp. when i was at DAS, they were our respected arch rivals those years - we always split the season, and battled for 3rd at KAIAC (behind SAHS and SFS powerhouses at those times). tcis has solid fundamentals in their middle and back thirds - you'll notice it is always low scoring games against them - and they have good finishers up in the final third even with the older Altonen sister graduating. too bad they havent played FE class A - the brackets would be ridiculous(even with Faith going to AA)! last year 8 teams - this year?
Re: tcis
How now? *grin*
heheheh took them awhile --
heheheh took them awhile -- but we'll see :-) what are the other results for the day? boys and girls
Results
KAIAC SAT. pm
1 pm DAS 1 KIS 0 DAS strikes fast at 6 min to go up 1-0. Both teams trade a few shots on goal but hold strong on defense - DAS has the speed but KIS plays like they want it more. DAS holds on to win for 5th.
2:40 pm TCIS 2 SAHS 0 Scoreless till midway through the second half largely due to Liz Gleaves (keeper of the tournament) for SAHS and Ernie Song (best defender of the tournament) for TCIS . Nina Altonen (MVP) breaks open and scores twice in the second half. TCIS takes 3rd place.
4:20 pm SFS 3 OSAN 1 Scoreless in the first half, SFS attacks in the second half- Osan called for a handball in the box - Brittany Rader (offensive playerof the tournament) scores on the PK. SFS scores again to go up 2-0. Osan pours it on - Jassmine Pressley feeding it to Bria Pressley - Bria puts on an impressive display of athleticism only to have the SFS defense close her down at the last moment. Bria finally gets one in to make it 2-1 . SFS gets a 3rd late in the game to win it
3-1 and take the championship

cebudiver always gives good color and play by play when i get data from him :-)
dave - man, if you have a blackberry, you NEED to get a twitter account or something that can link to this site (charge it as a business expense) and send hourly updates on the Far East tournament here (maybe a separate blog to minimize the glut) -- so we can keep track !!!! think of all the subscribers, man :-):-)
KAIAC on Saturday AM
8 am KIS 2 SIS 1 8 am KIS comes out stronger than they had played all season and are up by 2 at the half - SIS puts their keeper as a mid -she has an assist (or goal) to make it 2-1 and KIS hold on for the win
9:40 am DAS 2 YISS 0 (On FRi. YISS scored on SFS at 50 min. to make it
2-1 SFS...) They fought hard against DAS, but they couldn't penetrate the defense and DAS scored twice on breakaways
11:20 am SIS 2 YISS 1
YISS played this game 15 min after the loss to DAS - it was 1-1 at the half - SIS scored again in the 2nd half to win for 7th. YISS played better in the tournament than they had all season but coming into a tournament as the #8 seed is tough to overcome
