Far East High School Basketball Tournaments 5.1: Score bulletins from Zama, Yokota

Boys Class AA final: St. Mary's International 35, Yokota 33.

Girls Class AA final: Faith Academy 50, Seoul American 47.

CONGRATULATIONS SMIS TITANS! 2009 FE HOOPS CHAMPS!

Way to go, Titans, way to go!!!

from: SMIS '74 Alum.

Congrats to Faith Academy as well!

Congratulations St. Mary's

I wasn't there, but I'm sure it was a good game. Congratulations to St. Mary's for winning the championship.

If anyone saw the games between St. Mary's and SAHS and St. Mary's and Yokota, what adjustment did St. Mary's make to hold both of those high scoring offenses to 36 and 33 points respectively? SAHS blew out St. Mary's earlier in the tournament, so what adjustment did St. Mary's make to contain the SAHS and Yokota offenses?

Who is the Team/Program of the Decade

Dave...

Who do you rate as the team/program of the decade (2000~2009) in basketball for the boys and girls AA and A?

I know St. Mary's has three AA boys basketabll championships this decade. Seoul American also has three AA boys basketball championships this decade. Seoul American also has a couple of second place finishes this decade.

In doing this I don't know if you limit it to just the Far East tournaments or you include the Hong Kong tournament and the New Year's Classic as well.

I think it would be interesting to see who the team/program of the decade is for boys and girls AA and A basketabll for this past decade.

What do you think, Dave?

Re: Who is the Team/Program of the Decade

What a great idea you've given us for next basketball season, which will mark the turn of the decade. And perhaps the next school year as a whole: What are the top teams/programs in ALL aports for the decade? ... Gad, I can't wait until August for this!

M.C. Perry / E.J. King Boy's Basketball

M.C. Perry and E.J. King are two small schools who don't get much attention, no body expected much from them this season. Both teams played their hearts out in the Far East Tournament. E.J. King lead by Ryan Wagner went further in the tournament than anyone thought they would, and M.C. Perry lead by John Ayers and Chase Dariso put a scare in each opponent. Ayers (soph.) Dariso and Wagner (fresh.) made also All-Tournament Team. I believe John Ayers was leading scorer in the tournament, his 42 in a defeat against Edgren was a sight to behold (Perry was down by 14 in the 3rd and took the lead in the 4th before losing). These three young men will be much more experienced and dangerous come next year's tournament. Not bad for two small schools in Southern Japan. Can't wait until next years tournament.

What do you think Dave ?

E.J. King

I agree that the young players are talented. But there is a rumor going around that Ryan Wagner will be attending Edgren next season. So if this is true i believe that the Eagles will be a tough team to compete with next season.

Re: E.J. King

That same rumour continues that Wagner might attend Yokota as well. So, who knows where? We shall see. (Note: Wagner's father, David, played for Yokota in the mid-1980s; that's pretty telling).

For certain, Shari Moss of Yokota is soon to be Shari Moss of Kadena and Nate Ong of Edgren will soon be Nate Ong of Yokota (this week).

Ryan Wagner playing for another school in Japan?

Let me shed some light on these rumors... This is coming from the horse's mouth, his dad! One thing that is true is that I am looking to get Ryan in a basketball program with some real post players. My first choice is to get him back to the states, with todays economic status, it has been difficult to get a job in my field that is also good for my career. Because of this I have decided to try and get a job at another military base here in Japan. My preference is the Kanto area, however, I have no choice but to go where I can get a job. My first choice would be Yokota High School, Edgren High School Misawa, Zama, and then Yokosuka. Yokota will always have a place in my heart because I attended, played ball and graduated from there back in the eighties. Where he plays will all depend on what base I can get a job at! There will be a few jobs opening up at Misawa in the summer that has sparked the Edgren rumor. I will apply for these, but, there is no guarantee that I will be offered any of these. If offered a job there Ryan may play for Edgren next year. I will also be looking at jobs coming open at Yokota A.B., Zama, and Yokosuka also. Depending on how the job search goes Ryan could be playing at anyone of these schools! Long story short the rumors aren't to far off, but, we don't know where he maybe playing. The other possibility that could happen is that none of the bases will offer me a job and he would be back playing for EJKing. Wish us luck and if anyone out there at the mentioned bases has some pull feel free to contact me!

Pretty Weak...

Trying to use a high school kid for a job is lame.

Reply to Pretty weak......

I am not using a high school kid for a job. I am trying to get a job somewhere else so he can be a part of a better program. I am doing it for him. Mind your own business.....

Congratulations SMIS

Great job Titans, way to take the tournament and great games were played! Way to beat Seoul, probably the biggest upset all season! Congratulations to the MVP Toni Taniguchi and all stars Sean Durham and Ken Tsunoda! Next season is only gonna get better with Juniors Amritpal Warriach and Toni Taniguchi teaming up for a possible repeat! Coach Sava is probably the best coach in all of the Far East, HANDS DOWN! Of course well played Yokota!

P.S. Number 55# of St. Mary's (Amritpal Warraich), he is gonna be some force next year for Coach Fred Sava! we will have to keep a close eye on him!
