Fearless Football Forecast, Week 1
Posted August 31st, 2007 by Dave OrnauerOK, here we go folks. Week 1 of the high school football season, and I'm trying something new this year, featuring predicted outcomes of games on the blog. Let's get started:
Friday
Japan
Nile C. Kinnick at Robert D. Edgren, 7 p.m.: Riding the crest of the school's first Class A title -- in fact, the first Far East championship in school history -- the Eagles welcome the Red Devils to Misawa on a chilly, rainy night. Such conditions tend to even things out, but give the Eagles the home edge and fourth win in five games, the first such stretch in 10 seasons ... Edgren 17, Kinnick 14.
Zama American at Yokota, 7 p.m.: Don't view this as a mismatch, even if Yokota has won the last eight Japan Football League and Kanto Plain titles and Zama is coming off a 1-14 mark the last two seasons. The Trojans are due, very soon, to enjoy a breakout. The host Panthers had to come from behind four times last season. Still, Yokota's the champion until somebody knocks them off ... Yokota 16, Zama 12.
Saturday
Guam
Guam High vs. John F. Kennedy at Blue Jacket Field, Naval Station, 7 p.m.: Panthers will continue to hold way over the team they beat last year to reach the semifinals of the Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam playoffs. Start of something big? Coach Brandon Miller seems to think so. ... Guam High 21, John F. Kennedy 14..
What do you think? Sound off! And remember, you've entered the No-Hate Zone. :)
