Fearless Football Forecast, Week 6

Ornauer didn't do so hot last week, a pedestrian 3-3, leaving him at 22-7 so far this season with six weeks to go. Should have expected a four-time defending Guam champion to remind us why they're a four-time defending champion. Robert D. Edgren topping Nile C. Kinnick on the road, something of an upset.

On to Week 6:

Friday
Japan
Zama American at Robert D. Edgren, 7 p.m. -- That one-point loss at Zama no doubt weighs heavily on the host Eagles' minds. Important to bear in mind that Edgren has won four of its last five at home. Zach Latimore will be on a mission ... Robert D. Edgren 17, Zama American 14.
American School In Japan at Nile C. Kinnick, 7 p.m. -- Host Red Devils are hoping for Tyree Hunt to return to the lineup, but even without, Kinnick has enough weapons -- and plenty of motivation -- to end its current slide. ... Nile C. Kinnick 18, American School In Japan 10.
Guam
Guam High at John F. Kennedy, 7 p.m. -- Another team trying to halt a down slide, the visiting Panthers take aim at a school-first season series sweep of the host Islanders. ... Guam High 16, John F. Kennedy 11.

Saturday
Japan
Kubasaki at Yokota, 7 p.m. -- First time that teams from Okinawa and Japan have met during the regular season. Important tuneup for both teams entering the Class AA playoffs in November, and could even be a preview of the championship on Nov. 10. Panthers get this one because of the home edge ... Yokota 20, Kubasaki 19.
South Korea
Taegu American at Seoul American, 2 p.m. -- Warriors were within one point of Falcons with five seconds left the last time the teams met, and since then Taegu snapped its 18-game losing streak. And since then, Seoul American has run its Pacific-best winning streak to nine games. ... Seoul American 19, Taegu American 15.
Guam
Father Duenas Memorial at Southern, 10 a.m. -- Will Williams and the Friars' march to the top of the league continues, as does the long season for the winless Dolphins. ... Father Duenas Memorial 22, Southern 8.
George Washington vs. Simon Sanchez at Ramsey Field, John F. Kennedy High School, Upper Tumon, 7 p.m. -- These two teams' win-loss records somewhat mislead -- host Sharks have been outscored 67-58, while Geckos have outscored their foes 80-45. Defending champion pride continues to roll. ... George Washington 17, Simon Sanchez 13.

What are your picks? Shout it out, y'all. And remember, you have entered THE "no-hate zone." *smile*

My Picks Are!

Japan:
Edgren over Zama.........as long as the eagles have mr.latamore in the lineup; the eagles are going to be tough to beat...

Yokota over Kubasaki.........Yokota is playing at home and have had game experience so far..This is the Dragons first game as ONE squad. Mistakes will hurt Kubasaki in this one.

Korea:
Seoul American over Daegu...........Last time these two teams played it was nasty weather; downpour the entire game...both teams combined for a total of 14 fumbles. The Falcons are at home this time and can't wait to play on the new turf field they have. The Falcons D is the kryptonite to any of the Warriors supermen (as they like to call themselves). It's going to be another shut out win for the defending champs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guam:
Guam High over JFK.......the panthers are in desperate need for a win...they get it here.

Father Duenas over Southern.........Ineligble player or not...the Frairs win this one bigggggggg.

George Washington over Simon Sanchez.............Close game here but i like the Geckos here..

Edgren 36 zama 12 Kinnick 12 asij 10

EDGRENS HOMECOMMING THEY WILL HAVE A BIG CROWD and they always seem to dominate at home especially with the victory this past week, they confidence has increased.

edgren zama game

this game is going to be very big for the eagles. its known now that they are a second half team and seem to always win there gamees in the second half. last year in this very game the egales were down 18-6 at halftime and end up winnnig 28-18 maybe this year with the new explovises on offense like jaq moton and the old ones like "the zach latimore" the eagles will not just score in the second half but throughout the whole game... the eagles win big...very big

Kubasaki 42, Yokota 12

Okinawa doesn't lose to the Kanto Plains in football.

YOKOTA has more expierence

yokota having more expierence and being at home, i think they have the advantage to win!

Okinawa owns Yokota

Yokota is 0-3 against Kubasaki and Kadena dating back to 1992.

Yokota All Day

To the comment above if i recall in 05 kadena combined their to two football teams and still lost to an underestimated yokota team 50-6. I see history repeating itself. Get ya facts straight buddy

A little misinformed

Sorry Dragon, but we have beaten Okinawa teams all but once, dating back to the Rising Sun Bowls. That was when Kubasaki and Kadena had split squads. That meant that each of the 4 teams on Oki was working with a population of 175-225 males. Yokota at it's peak 4 years ago averaged 175 male students, and we still beat you, normally by large margins.
However, after some arguments about having a hand tied behind their backs, the rules were changed. Now with the Okinawa teams fielding 1 squad per school, you are making a team out of 350-425 males, whereas our school only has 160 to choose from. The number game says you SHOULD win by a large margin, yet Kadena came out last year by a mere 7 points.
Those are the facts. But it think it is going to be a very good game, because both teams are very well coached. Let's just hope nobody comes away injurred.

I agree

Kadena should have won by more. Good point.

Yokota 51 Kubasaki 21

ey dragonfutbol seems like okinawa teams do lose to kanto teams

yup thats how we do it

yup thats how we do it baby!! panther all day yall better watch out cuz we goen all the way this year

Ouch!

Very nice win for Yokota. At least I was fairly close on the score =). Good luck in the playoffs.

Yokota

Dragonfutbol...if you havnt noticed...or maybe you havnt been in the far east for to long, but Yokota runs the football over here. I remember the 2004 season. The last Rising Sunbowl. It was supposed to be the closest Rising Sunbowl ever. We (Yokota) came out and beat the snot out of kadena 50-6. How is that for close. It looks like history repeated itself. Another beatdown.

The full history

Kubasaki's full squad and Yokota split the two postseason games they played in 1975 and '76; I do not have the final scores of those.

1992, Ichiban Bowl I -- Kubasaki Dragons 44, Yokota 12 at old Bonk Field, Yokota High School. Jamel Smith runs all over Panthers.
1993, Ichiban Bowl II -- Kadena Dragons 35, Yokota 12 at Kadena Air Base's McDonald Stadium. Robert Eaves and Josh Brandt combine for 468 yards, the last time any Pacific team had two 200-yard rushers in one game.
1999, Rising Sun Bowl I -- Kubasaki Samurai 19, Yokota 14 at Kubasaki's Mike Petty Stadium.
2000, Rising Sun Bowl II -- Yokota 3, Kubasaki Samurai 0 at Zama American High School's Trojans Field. David Daugherty, a JV kicker, scores the game's only points.
2001, Rising Sun Bowl III -- Yokota 42, Kadena Buccaneers 14 at McDonald Stadium. Darren Taylor's signature game.
2002, Rising Sun Bowl IV -- Yokota 57, Kubasaki Samurai 14 at new Bonk Field. Mike Chamberlain runs opening kickoff for TD for second straight year.
2003, Rising Sun Bowl V -- Yokota 31, Kadena Buccaneers 3 at McDonald Stadium. Roy Roach outperforms A.J. Morgan.
2004, Rising Sun Bowl VI -- Yokota 50, Kadena Islanders 6 at new Bonk. Chris Roach 232 rushing yards in one half.
2006, Far East Class AA semifinal -- Kadena Panthers 37, Yokota 30 at new Bonk. Sean Shattuck & Co. outdo Anthony McNeill & Co.
2007, first regular-season interarea Japan-Okinawa game -- Yokota 51, Kubasaki Dragons 21. Pick your poison -- McNeill and Tony Presnell combine for six touchdowns.

All told, Yokota goes 5-1 against Okinawa's split squads. Okinawa's full squads go 4-2 against Yokota.

Daegu-Seoul

man, we were licking our chops to make you eat your words. unfortunately MPOV and you got the results right - but undoubtedly not in the way you all thought it was going to be. 0-3, and a couple opportunities to score. (how do you call a punt return touchdown back because of a foul on a player not even on the field? - means the ref actually did not see a foul, i think)
but any highschool kid that can make a 45 yard field goal with the pressure on in the last quarter, ought to be commended (good leg, falcon). if you have to lose - might as well be because of a great play.

3-0

3-0 is definitely the lowest-scoring game in DODDS-Korea football history -- and most certainly not what I anticipated. no question of that. :)

Joe Han

Kudos to Joe Han for booting that field goal.

History

Thanks for the history Dave, it's nice to see the real info. We're lucky to have you over here to keep us all in check.

History

Thanks for the History. Looks like Okinawa actually did something with Yokota in the past. Not to much recently. Are we looking at a Big Time Rivalry? And why is it that Kubasaki and Kadena represent eachother as Okinawa, while the mainland teams just represent themselves. How about a Kanto and Okinawa All Star Game. Do they still have the Kanto All star Game?

Re: History

I guess I could have said Okinawa vs. Kanto, but it's always Yokota winning up there, right? I think they did used to play all-star games, like in the 80's or something.
