High school football Week 2 lookback: What we learned Friday night

Brief scouting report through the eyes of a non-football coach during Friday's Pacific high school gridiron contests, hours after we somewhat whetted our NFL appetites for the 2008 season:

-- Brandon Harris and Kadena picked up right where it left off last year, when the Panthers won the Class AA football title. Harris ran for a touchdown and had two interceptions, a third of Kadena's six takeaways as it shut out Kubasaki 13-0 at Kadena's McDonald Stadium. But the most significant number: A combined 27 penalties for 228 yards. That's nearly a third of the game's 100 plays. Season-opening games tend to go like that. Most certainly, the execution will improve when the teams meet again Sept. 26 at Kubasaki's Mike Petty Stadium.

-- Watch Yokota's Derick "Rookie" Seward like a hawk. The guy's had back-to-back 153-yard games and five total touchdowns -- in just FIVE quarters of play! The Panthers' second unit played the second half of Friday's 42-6 home romp over Zama American, and the Aug. 29 season-opening 35-0 win at Nile C. Kinnick was called with 11:39 left due to lightning. And he had an 81-yard TD run called back due to a penalty in the Kinnick game.

-- Even in defeat, Kinnick senior Tyree Hunt showed he's returned in style from leg injuries that hampered his preseason. In Friday's 30-24 loss at Robert D. Edgren, in which the Red Devils almost rallied from a 21-0 deficit, Hunt amassed 192 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, two catches for 94 yards and a 20-yard return for a TD.

-- And might we be seeing the formation of "Fantastic Four 2.0" at Edgren? Jamal Dennis gained 108 yards on 12 attempts and scored twice, Drew Holder passed for a touchdown and Cheston Nurial-Dacalio ran for a TD. All that to complement Johnell Alexanders's 120 yards on 17 carries and six returns for 80 yards. Sure sounds like it to me.

Edgren on the Move

Well done Eagles, well done!

What?!

I honestly think that the Yokota Panther backfield will rip the edgren defense apart. There's too much talent in the backfield. Defenses will not know who to key on. Derick (Rookie Seward) has had back to back 150 yard games! Tony Presnell can do impressive things when given the opportunity. Rainey Dailey against Zama High broke a dive up the middle for a long touchdown. As we've seen before De'eric Harvin can throw the ball for TD's or can tuck his shoulder and create plays. If they manage to shutdown ONE of these options. Andy Silva has hands of gold. He can catch almost anything. Nothing against Edgren I just think that the Yokota offense is to dynamic. The offensive line is a little undersized however they make for it in speed and technique. Every starting member on the squad, has plenty of heart, and will NOT quit. Speed=Power and Yokota's backfield has displayed this in previous games. Yokota 28 Edgren 6.
Soo in conclusion my last words to my fellow bloggers is GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!
