Hong Kong results; good start, but long way to go
Posted November 24th, 2007 by Dave OrnauerIf Saturday's championship games in the 38th Hong Kong International School Holiday Basketball Tournament seemed familiar, well, the combatants were definitely familiar with each other.
Congratulations to the Seoul American Falcons boys on their first championship in the tournament, following their 68-66 edging of Kubasaki.
And a tip of the cap to coach Ken Hudson and Kadena, winners of this tournament for the second time in Hudson's five seasons, 47-40 over Seoul American.
Seoul American's boys avenged both their 75-71 loss to Kubasaki in last February's Class AA tournament at Seoul American, and their 72-69 loss on Thursday to Kubasaki in Hong Kong round-robin play.
Kadena lost to Seoul American 50-44 in Thursday's round-robin action, but used a 24-11 third quarter run to lead 42-32 en route to winning the championship.
The result mirrored Kadena's 57-43 Class AA semifinal victory over Seoul American last February.
That was the first big test of the season for Kubasaki's, Kadena's and Seoul American's boys and girls teams. Thus, let's not read too much into the results. It's still early and every team still has plenty of room to grow.
And it won't be the last time before Class AA that these teams will see each other. The boys' components will meet again in early January at the New Year Classic at Yokota. We'll know more then. :)

Off topic
It's understood that not one match of wrestling have begun, however, it would be nice to see an article of all the returning wrestlers of The Far East District, for information for other teams. When will we be expecting that kind of article?

Coming to a Sunday edition of Stars and Stripes near you. :)
Great covergae of the tournament
Great coverage of the tournament, now how about the regular season. It started you know....reporting scores is great but I want to hear first hand your observations from DoDDS games. What games will you be attending this week?
Easy Tiger
Remember, Dave operates out of Okinawa. It is very difficult for him to BE everywhere physically and still provide the coverage that he does. He relies heavily on information from coaches and programs. I feel that coverage of sports in the Pacific is the best I have ever seen, as compared to the states or anywhere else for that matter. If you want to see the stories, make sure coaches are providing in-depth, timely information.
Re: Easy Tiger
Part of the problem last week was ... ORNY was knee-deep in gathering information and writing up the season previews. Blogging will resume in full force after ORNY completes his next Hometeam opus, about Far East wrestling "defending champions," which will publish Thursday. :)
