Yokota by more Kadena by

Yokota by more
Kadena by more
Kinnick and Edgren, could be a closer one

Edgren vs Kinnick

Eagles victory but not by much. Defense will be key in this game.

DAS vs. SAHS

I believe that the prediction for the DAS vs. SAHS game this upcoming Saturday is wrong, the DAS team is starting with a group of new young players who KNOW they can win the Class A championship and then go to Japan and win the Far East tournament. They have plenty of good players and will beat the SAHS Falcons....... Falcons 10, Warriors 22

Lucky

Let's not forget that for the third year now, Yokota is below the minimum and could declare Class A for football.

DAS .vs. SAHS

DAS may not have the 'dynamic duo' that they had last year. but they have MANY talented people on their team and also think that the warirors will come out on top of this game..........................Falcons 14 , Warriors 28

Kinnick

Everyone seems to be looking past Kinnick, they are better than the score showed last week.

Yokota

Yokota has too many weapons. Another W and blowout waiting to happen

Enrollment Data

You can log on to the DoDEA website for current enrollment data...this is public info so no secrets here at:

http://www.dodea.edu/datacenter/enrollment.cfm

Current Yokota enrollment as of Aug 29th - 302

Good Luck!

320

You're right Coach, but the magic number for football is 320, not the 300 of all other sports.

Re: 320 it's actually 360

According to the records I have from DODDS, for football only, Class AA = 360 and above. Class A = 359 and below. It is 300 for all other sports, yes.

Yokota going class A

I think it would be a disgrace. they beat the AA school's as it is. However, if they are going to keep saying they are going class A, do it. no sense in waiting. i still think Edgren will give you guy's a run. you are both good teams.

Edgren is Solid

Nobody ever said we are going to Class A, just that we could. It's a double edged sword for Yokota...drop to class A and we're considered running from the best competition/bullies, or stay in class AA with the best competition, but it's an uneven playing field. 302 kids vs 600+ is tough.

Agreed

But you guys seem to pull it off year after year, for the last few years. What makes this year different?

Enrollment Data for Pacific Schools as of Aug 29, 2008

All,

Thought it might be pertinent to post the enrollment data from the DoDEA website. Some might be confused by the 'total' number as it often includes other grades (i.e. 7th and 8th) and are not used to determine high school (9-12) eligibility for competition in athletics (Football over 360 = Class AA, 359 or under = Class A; all other sports over 300 = Class AA, 299 and under = Class A - with some subtle differences depending on the sport...again, public info...see below (It doesn't work real well but if you study the table carefully, it's all there...

School Grade 9 Grade 10 Grade 11 Grade 12 Total
Guam High School 129 127 108 80 444
Ernest J. King High School 59 44 41 29 173
Matthew C. Perry High School 51 35 28 19 133
Nile C. Kinnick High School 194 143 151 100 588
Robert D Edgren High School 84 73 69 71 297
Yokota High School 93 82 68 59 302
Zama High School 93 94 89 76 352
Daegu American High School 48 49 50 32 179
Osan American High School 73 75 57 60 265
Seoul American High School 199 157 154 148 658
Kadena High School 251 252 218 169 890
Kubasaki High School 194 174 145 124 637

Yokotas the 2nd smallest

Yokotas the 2nd smallest school in the pacific with a football team and we're one of the most competitive every year... = good coaching

what about korea?

Osan (enrollment 250) and Daegu (180) are both in the pacific and have football teams
Yokota is the 2nd smallest school in Japan with football ... on the verge of being a small school for all sports but the success of the football program will probably keep them at AA a bit longer even if they drop below 300 by May

oh... well i followed that

oh... well i followed that enrollment site for dodea and i thought it said osan had more..
but what team in japan is smaller then yokota? because.. yet again that enrollment site said otherwise unless my eyes were decieving me

yokota is 302 misawa is at 297 (Daegu at 180)

its only 5 less , but it is smaller ( you cant count 7th and 8th graders in the total since they cant play )... you have to add up the 9-12 numbers for the unit schools and the middle high combination schools
however, I do admire what yokota has done in football considering its size

Re: what about korea?

It says here that as long as Yokota's enrollment doesn't drop below 250 and Tim Pujol, Ric Cabral and Paul Ettl still coach there, Yokota will not drop to Class A. Especially Pujol; he's a Texas man. 'Nuff said.

Go Red Devils!

The longest trip you had to make in DoDDS Germany was to play Berlin. That involved taking the Duty Train through East Germany***. But you got to sleep on the train. No problem. I feel bad for Misawa and all the teams who have to take the 12+ hour ride up/down on the bus. How DO they do it?!?! That's a Narita-Chicago flight right there. Then you go play football that day.

I hope Kinnick wins at Edgren. Donavan and Tyree are outstanding (and not just because they're in my class!).

GO RED DEVILS!

***edit: that was in the 80s. I think some teams now play Rota. THAT'S got the be the worst bus trip of all. Yeeps!

ASIJ

Lets go mustangs!

Fearless Football Forcast

DAVE---- What a great article! Very deep analysis of Far East High Football.
To all the Far East sports teams : Play Hard, give 100%;but most of all have Fun. To the Kadena Panthers: The ride to the top of the mountain is easy.
The difficult task is STAYING THERE! Go Panthers GOOD LUCK from a "Fearless Football Fan" in San Antonio Texas.

GO WARRIORS!! still

GO WARRIORS!! still keeping track from the land of dust and heat. we get the ME version of Stars and Stripes (no Pacific HS sports there), Dave, so again thanks for this site!

Re: GO WARRIORS!! still

Major Yellow Card, ORNY was in your neck of the woods last week. Not a good start for the tennis and football teams on Saturday, but the volleyball team got the jump out of the gate. 170 days until the first official soccer practice! (yeah, I'm counting). *grin*

You Can Dowload the Pacific Version

Major YellowCard,

I know the feeling...moving from the Pacific to Europe has left me disconnected from Orny...no one even comes close. You can still download the Pacific version of Stars and Stripes at:

http://estripes.osd.mil/

Just click on the Pacific tab and download the entire print version for free!!! Enjoy!

Re: You Can Dowload the Pacific Version

Major Yellow Card: And the version you'll find on the Pacific link is almost always the Korea version. Happy reading!

Thanks -- somehow this

Thanks -- somehow this usually takes forever to download. hopefully its just a temp problem. i've got soccer withdrawals already...

Re: Thanks -- somehow this

YOU'VE got soccer withdrawals? How about the guy (me) who has lived, breathed, eaten and slept soccer since the France-Italy semifinal in the 1998 World Cup, in which Italy got homered (called for 26 fouls in the second half while France got called for two)? Now 169 days until the first official practice as ORNY types this and is mashing the fast-forward button with every breath he takes. Feb. 23, we hardly knew ye!

majoryellowcard

I'll keep you up to date, coach.... and pick your brains from time to time...
we will miss you here in Daegu .. you are the reason we have done so well the past 3 years
we are looking forward to another great season and hosting the class A far east girls tournament this year ...
