Zama enjoys fine basketball breakout
Posted December 3rd, 2007 by Dave OrnauerOne would think Zama American's boys basketball team would be rebuilding. After all, coach Tom Allensworth lost eight of the 10 players who suited up for last year's Far East Class AA tournament, which ended in fourth-place heartbreak after a 34-0 start to the season.
But how 'bout them Trojans?
Seniors Anthony Caple and Sean Wise, newcomer Zach Bosch and holdover Nelson Bishop have shown they've not lost a step -- at least thus far -- opening with a 2-0 mark.
And the girls have done that one better, starting out 3-0. Perhaps there is something to the notion that soccer players (Aubrey Ashliman) can make the crossover to the hardwood.
Other teams that have broken out the gate smartly are defending Class AA boys champion Kubasaki (6-2), Okinawa archrival Kadena (8-1), defending girls Class AA champion Kadena (7-1) and Seoul American's boys (8-1) and girls (7-1).
The region's best record so far: Seoul Foreign's boys (7-0), fueled by their Thanksgiving trip to China, where they went 5-0.

I guess it really doesnt
I guess it really doesnt matter since it was a friendly game, but Seoul American routed Seoul Foreign in that matchup earlier in November.. Another thing...I dont know why it has Seoul American listed number 2 in KAIAC last year. We were the conference and tournament champs...just wanted to make that clear =)
not shocked
I am not shocked at all that the zama boys team is doing good again. They have two very good coaches there. The kids from last year do not care about last season, all they are thinking about is this season.
The coaching is it
What you happening at Zama is good coaching. Someone needs to recognize that this year. As for the Zama girls they have a lot of young raw talent and its goes deep on the bench. Both these teams will be very good come January.
E.J. KING
Don't sleep on E.J. King. They beat Yakota without three of their starters due to SAT's. With everyone available, they just might be the strongest team in the Pacific.
oops, sorry bout that
oops, sorry bout that congrats ej.king
coaching
it is all because of our coaches.
Put they're name to the test
Well we'll see how well E.J. King does against the Korean teams of the Pacific since they wrestle both Friday and Saturday against not only the Falcons, but also the Warriors and Cougars. This will not only test King, but also the Korea teams.
E.J. King
hrmmm... Today was the Duel Meet between E.J. King and Daegu. All that needs to be said, is that if this was E.J. Kings primary line up, they cannot be the best team in the pacific, if the second best team in Korea, beat them about 35-21. That's all that needs to be said.
E.J. King
Nicko: I'm pretty sure they were discussing E.J. King basketball, which got off to a 3-1 start. Just tonight (Friday), they were missing four starters and lost 97-89 to an excellent Osaka International squad. The girls (4-1) fared better, 46-26 over Canadian Academy, combining for 37 steals, 13 by Kristia Suriben alone.
Good job Friday! Hope Saturday's exhausting slate -- 113 total bouts -- will be fulfilling and educating for everybody.
oops
my bad...
