I think it should go to Toni

I think it should go to Toni Tonigucci, from St. Mary's(?).
That kid is still a junior!?

Do you know who was the boys

Do you know who was the boys basketball class AA MVP?

Taniguchi, St. Mary's

Taniguchi, St. Mary's

Although Wood did not go

Although Wood did not go undefeated, gotta give him credit for being One of Two 4-time champions, and had some of the best matchs of Far East against Guzman and Henderson. Hands down, it should go to him.

Butts

Although Butt's style of wrestling wasnt always the most sportsmanlike, it was clear that he was the most dominant wrestler at any tournament he was at. There is nothing anyone can say about the results that he has proved to be able to achieve, over and over again. Scott Wood is very, very good, and is definitely a solid wrestler, but, Butt's didnt give up a single point. Wow.
Toni Taniguchi is also a good candidate, but I dont think that he himself can take this award. Congrats to the Titans for winning Far East, but why couldnt they prove themselves during the regular season? Again, thats something that Butts was able to do all season, and he led his team to win the Kanto Championship as a team.

Please stop writing

RTNDFC,
I think you should stop writing blogs. It's clear that #1 you are biased to internal schools, and #2 you don't really know what you're talking about. Cameron Butts is one of the best wrestlers to come through the Pacific, and I have had the priveledge to watch most of his matches. Never once was he unsportsmanlike or malicious. As a matter of fact, he had enough knowledge and skill to hurt many kids, but never once did this happen. Just because you or your son couldn't hang with him doesn't make him unsportsmanlike. He was just giving you the "best competition."

I have a reason why I said

I have a reason why I said what I said. I dont really see how my comments are biased towards international schools, when I'm saying that I think a KINNICK wrestler deserves this award. Secondly, the reason I stated him not always sportsmanlike was because of the slams that he showed during some of the matches. I'm a huge fan of 5 point moves, and I think they're great, but their are rules in the Kanto League that says that you aren't allowed to slam your opponent. This is not only my opinion, because I know for a fact that some coaches didnt vote him as MVP of Kanto because of this.
Nevertheless, I think that what Butts did this year was outstanding and is an amazing accomplishment, and thats why I said he deserves to be named athlete of the season.

Cameron's wrestling wasn't

Cameron's wrestling wasn't sportsmanlike?
- He never intentionally tryed hurting someone.
- It is a contact sport, 1 on 1 let the best man (woman) win by all means, given they follow the rules.
- Going for 3 or 5 point throws is part of the sport, if a wrestler is afraid of getting taken down they shouldn't wrestle.

Liz Gleaves

The award should go to Liz Gleaves....She was the MVP of the KAIAC Tournament and won the Individual Sportsmanship Award at the Far East Tournament.

Could be any of the above...

There are truly some great athletes on the docket this quarter...could really go to any of them. I am definitely impressed with the female achievements this seson. I really would like to see the voting split into male and female categories, much like athlete of the week.

Liz Gleaves is surely something special. I remember seeing her in 7th and 8th grade...she was jumping out of the gym even then...I can only imagine what she is growing into...surely outreaching anyone and everyone...I believe she has genetic ties to a Harlem Globetrotter (Dave, help me out here). I am similarly impressed with Faith's accomplishments and Janel Long - four time Far East selection is nothing to sneeze at. I have always believed that they could compete with any team in any division, regardless of "spikes" in their enrollment...that boarding school stuff really makes them play as if they have one heartbeat.

My hat's off ot Osan's girls (led by Celine and Jasmine) executing "Barker Ball" at its best no doubt...a shame for the boys as I am sure a two-pronged championship was possible.

Wrestlers

There were a lot of very good wrestlers this season, and Wood definitely is at the top of that list. I still want to recognize Tony Presnell of Yokota for his accomplishments. Not only did he go undefeated for the second season in a row, he really had only one match this year where he was challenged (when bumped up to 180 lbs for a dual match) although he won that convincingly as well.
Several wrestlers went undefeated this year, and Butts is also untouched in 2 seasons. What makes Tony's story stand out is that he came back from a seperated shoulder injury sustained in football, which would have sidelined most wrestlers for the season.

I'm also very proud to note that eight of the 13 Far East Champions came from the Kanto Plains. This was definitely a year in which the level of competition was much higher than it had been for a few seasons, from all districts.

I like all of these. THEY ALL WIN

But my vote still goes to Cameron. As several others said, that guy was unstoppable. If he doesn't go on with wrestling in college, something's rotten in the state of Denmark.

And yes, I'm biased:)

How about a "Holy Cow, He/She Did WHAT?" award? The Kinnick player who sprained his knee or ankle or whatever it was CONTINUING ON to wrestle and win the match (thus giving Kinnick the win).

Did I mention I'm biased? GO RED DEVILS!!!

Ashley Hawkins

This is a very good group of athletes but I believe junior point guard from Edgren Highschool Ashley Hawkins should win this honor...She is one tough athlete...I have never seen so many coaches throw so many defenses and presses to stop one player..and she still prevails..She took her team the whole way to the championship when most of her players was down with injuries...She is an awesome kid and much deserving of this honor!!!

voting

hey dave how do you vote?..I would like to put my vote in for ashley hawkins

Butts

How can you say that Butts was unsporstman like? He is one of the nicest kids you'll ever meet. He is respected by all the coaches in the Far East, not only for his performance, but how he acts as a student athlete. He has never disrespected another opponent or another coach in the two years he wrestled for Kinnick. 5 point throw is every wrestlers dream. They all want to get it sometime in their wrestling career. I'm sorry for the kid who was thrown, but they should not wrestle if that is was they are afraid of. RTDNFC, you obviously don't know what you are talking about and should stop writing in the blog.

Between Butts and Wood is going to be a tight vote. Wood was not the best wrestler this season, but he definitely earned his 4th championship by defeating Nick Guzman and JC Henderson who were both real tough and solid wrestlers. Butts, going on scored on is pretty amazing. He had to make adjustments coming into freestyle and he proved himself this year by not giving up a single point.

MAY 1st BABY!!!!!!

Single A Girls Tourney - Hawkins was great!!

Let me first admit that I don't follow wrestling as much.....

However, I am an avid basketball fan. Take it from someone who was there, the effort and performance from the Edgren High guard was unbelievable. Going into the tourament I had never heard of her before but after seeing them play last year, it was like night and day.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy we won and I believe the best team won...we deserved it!

But Hawkins 30pt game vs daegu in the semi finals alone was a classic. Three pointers, free throws, defense ...etc etc etc. She absolutely did it all.

All week long she was the young lady we all wanted to watch.....when you get the MVP playing on the runner up, whether you agree or not, that says a lot. She gets my vote!

Ashley Hawkins

I would like to cast my vote for Miss Ashley Hawkins!! She is a terrific athlete, mentor, motivator...all season long, and showcased her skills during the Far East Tournament in Iwakuni.

DREW SNOWDEN SHOULD GET IT!

hahahahaha well.....i think yall need to look at DAS good players...TOM BROOKS and MARCUS LEE...

DREW SNOWDEN SHOULD GET IT

IN ADDITION TO BROOKS AND LEE, DON'T FORGET ABOUT JOHN AYERS OF M.C. PERRY. IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS ON WHAT HE DID AT THE CLASS A FAR EAST TOURNAMENT ASK THE FOLKS AT EDGREN WHOM HOSTED THE TOURNAMENT.

Ashley Hawkins...Should Get It

Ashley Hawkins single-handedly led the Edgren Eagles to their finest season. The girls have finished 16-8 and have had an outstanding season. I mean not most girls in the league can drop 30 points in one game. I bet some girls from other schools can't drop 30 points all season lol. But hands down i believe that Ashley should recieve this recognition for her Athleticism. Drew Showden is a good player but he plays weak for his height. And that dude from M.C. Perry sure did play his "A Game" and have 42 points in one game but as I recall Edgren still won the game and sent them home in like 7th place. We'll see how everything will turn out next year for the small schools.

Deuces

Winter Season Athlete of the Quarter

I'm trying to vote for Ashley Hawkins, that's remarkable how she led that team to the turn around that they accomplished this year. Plus throw in the factor that she is only a junior and leading that turnaround for that team is a big accomplishment on her part. Please put a vote for me for Miss Ashley Hawkins thank you.

I VOTE FOR ASHLEY HAWKINS

I vote for Asheley Hawkins. She is good kid on and off the court.

Harry Bloom He as well as

Harry Bloom
He as well as Butts won his 2nd far east title
Wrestled Hard this season against a good rival
Butts i undertand is a very good wrestle
but the level of his competition in his bracket?
Is that Athelete of the Quater Material?
If not bloom
Definelty Wood!
Wood a 4 time far eat champion!
thats amazing!
it takes a lot to not want to lose again after he lost at rumble
but if none of those
at leat KEEP IT A WRESTLER!
wrestlers are the hardest working kids of any sport
So hopefully it stays with a wrestler!
Great season to everyone!

Ashley Hawkins

Ashley is an outstanding athlete with great determination and drive. She demonstrates sportsmanship on and off the court under the most unusual circumstances.

Ashleyyy Hawkins!

Shes that all around girl with good grades and shes good at sports.
Shes got my vote! shes a beast at cheerleading and basketball and now i cant wait to see what she does with soccer. Shes a great leader and i think she deserves this.

Ashley Hawkins

This young lady is a great all around athlete! First and far most her sportsmanship is one to be modeled. Ms. Hawkins doesn’t complain, she just makes it happen. Ashley Hawkins has been a great asset to her team. Ms. Hawkins has great defensive and offensive skills and it is clearly demonstrated on the court! Not only does she break through defensive tactics by her opponents; she is great with offensive tactics and works well with her team.
If you have not seen Ms. Hawkins in action, she is definitely one to look out for. I look forward to next season!

Much respect to Asley Hawkins, she definitely deserves the recognition!

Ashley Hawkins

You have to give the girl her props;
She has worked hard and it has shown through her teams success at far east.
She's a beast =] and a good leader.
Ashley should definately take it .

Wood

Scott Wood should get it! i mean what an acomplishment! 4-time champs dont come around every day. Plus he had such a tough weight class. Hes a good athlete and a good student...Naval acadamy!? Well i think he should get it because i think he is truly needs to be praised for such an awesome season.

Wood and Butts

I believe these wrestlers plays the toughest sport and should be recognized. Also, I would like to see these boys wrestle at Junior Nationals in Fargo during July to see how they fair against the top wrestlers in the United States.

4-time Champ

If Butts was at Kinnick from his Freshmen year, there is no doubt in my mind that he would have been a 4-time champion. He just never got the opportunity to prove himself. He was clearly the best wrestler in the Pacific this year.

Yeah, he prolly would have

Yeah, he prolly would have been, but what if J-Rod, Yokota was here for 4 years.. they would have probably been in the same weight class last year and Jason had won far east as a freshmen and sophomore already..

i kinda agree

Ya Thomas Brooks is probably one of the most amazing shooters i've seen in a while. He made great defensive of players look like they didnt know what to do at times. If DAS woulda went to the championship game i def. would agree with that no doubt, but the effort did come up a little short.

J-Rod

Sports_Fanatic,

I do agree with you saying that if J-Rod had been at Yokota all 4 years, he probably would have been a 4-time champ. He's in the same boat as Butts. It actually would have been pretty interesting to watch the two wrestle against eachother. I always enjoyed watching J-Rod wrestle. You did a great job this season as well.

Ashley Hawkins

Everyone who is unsure should vote for Ashley Hawkins. She is an awesome sports player, who is not only skilled at basketball. She is also a very good person, a team player, and shows good sportsmanship.

Ashley Hawkins

She's a great person and a great athlete and definitely deserves Athlete of the Quarter.
GO EAGLES!

Vote for Stephen Hovater

He ran the team extremely well and kept his composure throughout the tight games. He scored, rebounded, kept all of his teammates involved and played tight defense on some of the other teams best players.

Voting?

So how do we vote anyway? I voted a couple weeks back but it does not appear. Is the voting period over?

It's over

Voting ended in early March. My apologies.
