Books for military kids

Knowing other kids who go through the same trials, such as moving and deployment, may help our children know they are not alone. Reading books about military kids may also help.

Here are a few books military kids can relate to:

  • "Uncle Sam's Kids" series by Marine spouse Angela Sportelli-Rehak. Includes picture books about moving: "Moving Again, Mom," and deployment, "When Duty Calls." Aimed at younger readers.
  • “Spy X” series by Peter Lerangis: An adventure series about mobile military siblings. For older grade-schoolers.
  • “Hey, New Kid!” By Betsy Duffy: Not just for military kids, but they can relate.
  • “I Miss You,” by Beth Andrews: Part picture book about for military children and part “how to” guide for parents on preparing children for deployment.
  • “Daddy, You’re My Hero,” and “Mommy, You’re My Hero,” by a grown-up military kid, Michelle Ferguson Cohen: About deployment of either parent. See more at www.littleredhairedgirl.net.
